The tax year end is also the payroll year end….
So, get it right

If you are an employer running payroll, you will need to report to HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC)  on the previous tax year (which ends on 5 April 2023), give your employees a P60, and prepare for the new tax year, which starts on 6 April.

Important dates around payroll year-end include:

  • 5 April – End of the 2022/23 tax year
  • 6 April – Beginning of the new tax year (2023/24)
  • 19 April – Deadline for the final submission of the 2022/23 tax year
  • By 31 May – Employees need to receive their P60s showing the Gross pay and tax/NI deducted in the employment.

The late filing of payroll information could attract penalties.

HMRC have published important information for employers on GOV.UK, which includes help with finishing the tax year 2022 to 2023.
