The HMRC self-assessment helpline is closed between 12 June and 4 September, so there is little point trying to phone them!
This apparently is to free up 350 full time advisers to take urgent calls on other lines and help deal with the enormous backlog of correspondence – many of which are over 12 months old!
Online services will be available but not all services are accessible online!
This backlog affects us as your tax agent too – whilst we do our utmost to deal in a timely manner with queries, any correspondence we need to send to HMRC falls into this “back hole” too. Agents do have a dedicated helpline though! If you have any issues with HMRC we might be able to expedite this if we have agent authority to deal with HMRC on your behalf.
